Second Cohort of Management Team Members Joins Sands China International Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts

(Macao, June 13, 2018)Sands China Ltd. recently inaugurated a second cohort of management team members into its innovative Sands China International Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts (ISLP) with a ceremony at The Venetian® Macao

Committed to identifying future leaders from within and to building a vibrant pipeline of talent, the company is sending a second group of management team members around the world to receive international leadership development through this first-of-its-kind programme.

Between June and November 2018, the 26 ISLP participants will take advantage of the unique areas of industry expertise of three prestigious universities on three continents – the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics in Lisbon, Portugal; Cornell School of Hotel Administration in Ithaca, New York, USA; and the University of Saint Joseph in Macao.

“After honouring our first group of graduates in November, we are pleased to welcome our second class of management team members to this trailblazing tailor-made programme,” said Grant Chum, chief of staff for Sands China Ltd. “The International Strategic Leadership programme represents a significant investment by Sands China to further develop local talent and nurture our team members, which we consider one of our highest priorities. We are proud to be growing a leadership team that can lead and motivate our team members to be exceptional at all times, raising future leaders that can contribute to the industry and to Macao as a whole.”

The ceremony also saw this year’s participants post their thoughts on their upcoming five-month learning journeys to Facebook, allowing a wider audience to witness the company’s continued efforts to develop integrated resort leaders.

The Sands China International Strategic Leadership Programme for Integrated Resorts is an initiative of the Sands China Academy. Specially designed in conjunction with the three aforementioned universities, the ISLP is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Macao government’s goal of nurturing and developing more future top-and-mid level leaders for the city’s integrated resort industry. Programme participants come from all walks of life, with different educational backgrounds, and from a diversified mix of departments that are representative of Sands China’s unique integrated resort model.

Offering international horizons to these potential future leaders, the customised programme aims at transforming their business mindsets into ones that are more strategic, and seeks to help them thrive both personally and professionally.

Besides lectures, the programme includes five projects based on current or anticipated real-world business challenges facing the company. The project challenges are carefully assigned to the participants so that each can leverage his or her work expertise, maximising the ability to both contribute to and learn from the process.

Sands China hopes this practical component of the coursework will inspire the participants to respond to the challenges of the dynamic integrated resort industry by developing forward-looking and innovative strategies. They will present their recommendations to Sands China senior executives in November 2018.

Sands China values the development of a well-trained workforce, not only for growing its business regionally and internationally, but also for contributing to non-gaming diversification in Macao, the city’s continued development into a world centre of tourism and leisure, and the development of the Greater Bay Area.
